ADEX 2016

Pasquale Vassallo Judge and Relator of ADEX 2016 ADEX is the longest running and the largest dive expo in Asia celebrating its 22nd year in 2017. A must-attend event for anyone interested or involved in the world of diving, the event has seen a continuous increase in visitors over the past few years, with ADEX 2016 attracting a total of 57,793 visitors over three days! Taking place from April 7 – 9, ADEX 2017 proudly presents world-renowned marine life artists, conservationists and photographers to speak about their passion and work towards marine life. It is organized by Underwater360 (UW360), and is an event being endorsed by major organizations in the industry such as DEMA (USA), the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Singapore Underwater Federation (SUF). There is no need to vote for the ADEX dedication for 2017. Instead of a marine creature, ADEX will be dedicated entirely to Climate Change and the impact it is having, and will have, on our oceans. Photographer and ocean researcher Pasquale Vassallo was born in the coastal city of Naples in 1970. He grew up with an adoration for the sea, spending his youth searching for octopuses and other marine creatures on single breaths of air, before developing a passion to explore the underwater world. Mission Earth 2016 – The sea: the blue lung of the world

Univerde per la mostra mondiale Mission Earth 2016 – The sea: the blue lung of the world sceglie uno scatto di Pasquale Vassallo L’anteprima mondiale della mostra: “Mission Earth 2016 – The sea: the blue lung of the world” sarà inaugurata a New York il 31 maggio 2016 alle ore 18:00 (locali) al Palazzo delle Nazioni Unite in collaborazione con Marevivo e la Rappresentanza Permanente d’Italia all’ONU. In partnership con Meridiana Banca Popolare di Milano Solania e Rossopomodoro. In esposizione le foto più belle del nostro mare, selezionate tra quelle candidate ad Obiettivo Terra, il concorso fotografico sui parchi e le bellezze della natura italiani. Oltre alla foto vincitrice, alla mostra saranno esposti altri bellissimi scatti delle nostre aree marine protette. L’anno scorso la mostra aveva come soggetto i parchi regionali e nazionali, polmoni verdi del Pianeta, quest’anno invece le foto rappresenteranno il mare e le coste, polmoni blu del Pianeta. L’appuntamento è il 31 Maggio in South End of the Conference Building, the United Nations (Access at 1st Avenue and 46 Street).

Dive Photo Guide: Photographer of the Week – Pasquale Vassallo

Pasquale Vassallo learned to appreciate the marine majesty of the Mediterranean from a young age, freediving to find octopuses and urchins. So it’s little surprise to see some of these characters appear in his award-winning imagery even today. But the Naples native has expanded his horizons far from the Italian shoreline, capturing captivating critters in the Philippines and Lembeh. Pasquale’s images have earned top honors at the World Festival of Underwater Photography in Marseilles and at ADEX in Singapore. Despite his diverse portfolio and resume of publications—National Geographic, Discovery Magazine, and Scuba Diver Ocean Planet—Pasquale seems to be forever inspired by his local waters. Several years ago, he co-founded the Naples International Photo Contest. Il polpo di Posillipo sulla copertina di “Ocean Planet”

Articolo su Repubblica Napoli: Il polpo di Posillipo sulla copertina di “Ocean Planet” C’è un piccolo polpo curioso che diventa ambasciatore della biodiversità del golfo di Napoli conquistando la copertina della rivista “Ocean Planet”, tra le più prestigiose riviste del settore subacqueo al mondo. Lo scatto è di Pasquale Vassallo: il mollusco è stato immortalato nelle acque cristalline di Posillipo, a pochi metri dalla celebre “fenestrella di Marechiaro”. “E’ uno dei miei luoghi privilegiati di immersione – spiega il fotografo – e in quella occasione mi ero immerso per ritrarre la cosiddetta lattuga di mare. Era gennaio, con il Vesuvio innevato sullo sfondo. Mentre preparavo lo scatto, ecco comparire il polpo, che passeggiava tranquillo sulla lattuga alla ricerca, presumibilmente, di crostacei o frutti di mare. Sono stato solerte e un pizzico fortunato, immortalandolo prima della sua ritirata strategica. E sono orgoglioso, naturalmente, che una rivista prestigiosa come “Ocean Planet” abbia scelto per la sua copertina il mio scatto, che era già stata pubblicato da National Geographic e Discover Magazine, augurandomi che possa contribuire alla diffusione della bellezze del nostro Golfo e del nostro mare in tutto il mondo”.
